There is just something so beautiful and stirring about this collection of photos that it just gives me the chills all over my skin, but in a totally good way. Some photos I didn’t even post in pairs cause they are just too beautiful that we need to take in their perfection. Michael David Adams‘ work, Heavy Like Rain, is something I wish I could see everyday. The simplicity and contrast of black and white shows us a completely different perspective of humans once they hit the surface of the underwater world and it is just so effortlessly brilliant. I love how the bubbles look like glitter on the model, Jasmine Sais Burgess’ beautiful charcoal skin.
But I think it is just that that draws me to this photo shoot, the fact that I don’t see this beauty too often and I wish I could. I would like to see more woman of color and other ethnicities other than Caucasian. I am so very happy that we are slowly breaking the norms with women like Alek Wek and Lupita Nyung’o, who are gracing the pages of fashion magazines and changing the standards of beauty. Watch Lupita Nyong’o give this incredibly profound speech on black beauty that will touch you in so many ways: watch it here.
“And then Alek Wek came on the international scene. A celebrated model, she was dark as night, she was on all of the runways and in every magazine and everyone was talking about how beautiful she was… I couldn’t believe that people were embracing a woman who looked so much like me as beautiful.” – Lupita Nyong’o
